Reviewing and COOKING Lobster Bisque from Trader Joe's. See the results! SuperChef vs Supermarket

Summary

Trader Joe's lobster bisque is fire, and Darnell's putting it to the test. He tastes it straight from the pot, rates the creamy, velvety flavor an 8.5 out of 10, and locks in an A for price at just four bucks. But here's the catch: that container packs 27 grams of saturated fat and 73 percent of your daily sodium in one sitting. So what's Darnell do? He takes the bisque back to the kitchen and builds a shrimp pasta dish with asparagus, tomatoes, and that lobster goodness to create actual dinner for his kids. Competition store meets real family cooking.

All right, this episode of Super Chef our Supermarket

Everyone has been talking about this lobster bis at Trader Joe's

So, guess where we at? Trader Joe's

Guess what? We trying lobster bis

So, says lobster bis with butter, cherry wine, and fresh thyme

Let's see

But not only do I want to try this out

and grate it, but I want to actually try it in a dish

So, let's get this back to the kitchen

Let's try it out and grate it

And then let's make a dish out of it. [Music] All right

So, we are back in the kitchen

Boy, it there's no place like

home

Like, what do you say in the wheel? There's no place like home

There's no place like home

There's no place like home

Uh, we trying out Trader Joe's lobster bisque

I've heard it was fire

Um, and I'm looking at the expiration date

It gives me a little courage because it has a realistic

expiration date on it

It's like 10:13

Today is 97

So at least it ain't got like a 6 month shelf life

That'll make me worried

Um but start off good

You know what I'm saying? Let's start this thing off

So y'all know how we do this

We we bring the competition show to the

grocery stores, right? So we got taste, we got nutrition, and we have price

And the fourth one is whatever I feel like talk about after that

But usually I like to start with how the product talks that stuff

Like this is how they brag about what the product is

And I'm not going to look that hard for what this

one brags about because I heard about it cuz people are bragging about it

So there's no real need to look for anything cuz people been talking about this all over Tik Tok everywhere

But let's get to it

Let's go

I like to give the people what they want right away

Let's go straight to taste

I

warmed this up

I still got it in the pot

It's not lazy

I thought it was aesthetically pleasing seeing as how it's childish

It's a bis

You know what I'm saying? It's a soup

Um, let's get to the taste of this

It does have butter, cherry, and fresh thyme

So, I

like that. [Music] Okay

I ain't going to double dip cuz Evan may want something

But, you know, that's out of respect for you

You know what I'm saying? I was about to double dip. smooth,

creamy, actually velvety

Little chunks, little tiny floating pieces of lobster and I imagine onions and of sorts

Um, easy on the palette

Not aggressively lobstery, but not even subtle though

But it's still like it's throwing hooks and jabs, you know what I'm saying? Um, very well put together for a grocery

store lobster bisque

Um, if I was judging this on a competition show, I really wouldn't have much to say about it flavor-wise

Um, nicely put together

Trader Joe's

Nice

Out of 10

I give you a solid 8.5

You know what I'm saying? I would like more lobster, but I mean, who's not greedy for more

lobster? You feel me? Uh, but it's a hey on taste

I can't lie

And I'm easy on food

I start critiquing and things get harder the more you charge me for it

If this charged this was $17 a little different critique you may get from me, but let's go straight to price

A and taste

Price $4 one serving

I

mean, that's cheaper than you going to get at restaurants for a for a bowl of soup

Great price

A for price, A for flavor

Um, and I don't give that many like all A's, so that ain't a normal thing

And then let's go to nutrition

Let's see if we can get the trifecta

Let's see if you can get all straight A.

You know what I'm saying? So, nutrition wise, let's look at the back of this

Dang

Okay

All right

So, let's get the serving size

One serving of this is a whole container

So, let's be simple

They not trying to sugar coat this

A whole container is one serving.

It is saturated fats 27 gram of saturated fats

Total fat 44 gram

It's a lot of fat

That's just so that's let me let you understand this

Okay. 27 g of saturated fat is 135% of the amount of saturated fats that's supposedly you're supposed to have

It's all based on your

body weight

It goes up and down

Bigger people need more, less, little people need less

But this is just like a standard measure

Uh cholesterol high

Anything over 50 is high. 58% sodium sheesh 73% of your daily value in this

So let's say this

I'm not going to kill

you

It tastes fantastic

A country has an issue with sodium

Country has an issue with salt

Country has an issue with fat

If you are going to eat this, you need to be very strict in what you eat for the rest of the day. like you need to be counting your macros, micros, macros, everything

Um,

it's not that it has a lot of bad ingredients

The ingredients aren't bad

It's just what the ingredients have in them add to sodium, cholesterol, and saturated fats

I don't see like I don't see anything that I don't know what it is

Thyme, papa, cherry wine, onions, tomato paste, butter, heavy cream

Like

it's nothing in here that's like an ingredient

You got to figure out what it is

You got to Google it

It's just a lot of something you probably don't need

Uh, so as far as nutrition goes, a pro a D+ because I'm going eat it anyway

But I work out a lot

You know what I'm

saying? Don't go don't work out

So this won't matter as much

Sodium will still matter and sugar will still matter

No much no matter no matter how much you working out

Fat, those things you can burn off sodium

Boy, you'll be a high blood pressure diabetic before you know it

Messing with sodium and sugar

Uh,

so D+ for nutrition

Sheesh

I wanted to love it more there

But man, hey, like I tell you, man, you don't need to get an A in everywhere to go to college

Uh, and it's 530 calories

Got to watch out, people. 530 with no protein in at all

I need some protein to get my calories up

But I've

eaten it

It's delicious

I get it

But it's so delicious that I want to I mean I got some things I need to use up in my refrigerator that I want to make a quick dish out of it

So let's let's let's make this happen real quick

I'm going to make a quick dish

My my kids got to eat dinner

It's getting late

Let's go

ahead and knock this out real quick

All right

So look what I got here

I got some leftover pasta

I got some scrimps

I got onion

I got some asparagus

And I got some tomatoes

And I still got my You know what that is? That's a lobster

I mean, that's a lobster, but that's fire

So, I got some

shrimp

Go ahead and put a little oil in there

I like this little fish munger season

Man, I'm a big fan of getting one season

Have tons of seasonings in it

Imagine me telling you in the recipe you had to go get salt, finel, cayenne pepper, oregano, thyme, black pepper, parsley, pink peppercorns, garlic, uh,

sugar, lemon and lime, lemon and orange pills, Himalayan salt, paprika

You wouldn't even want to cook it

So, I guess I got all of it in there already

I'm saying that's what I like do at home

Now, I was competing, which most people see me compete many times, I would make this because I want to put

the right amount in there that I want

But this is delicious and it's good for at home, man

At home, I'm a cook

Everywhere else, I'm a chef

You know what I'm saying? That's why you got to be a great cook first

So, I got this hot cuz I love to sear

Get a little oil in there.

[Music] Yeah, that's what I'm talking about

Need a little bit more oil

Super super simple

Take a little onion

Little onion

Slice that bad boy

And move out of the way for you.

[Music] Slice it

Peel it. remember commercial uh the thing back in set it and forget it

Well, this ain't that

Got a little onion

Me and my kids love onion

We about to eat this tonight

So, shout out to late night uh session cuz

we got dinner tonight

Quick quick quick quick nights

Nothing spectacular about this

Very, very easy, fast, fun

Here we go

Get some color on them scrimps

Look at them bad boys look good. [Music]

Go ahead, throw me some onion in there

I like my onion to cook down a little bit

Enough onion

Oh, that looks delicious

We ain't even got to the other part It's going to be a very dry pasta

And when I say dry pasta, you're like, "What

is a dry pasta? We never heard that before." Well, dry pasta just means it ain't going to have that much sauce in it

Like, it's going to be barely coated

I should have bought two packs

I didn't know I was going to do this

But seeing as we didn't really know all the way, this is where we're going to go

with this tonight

That's all I got

Good place to hide vegetables inside

There you go

Get some tomatoes

Whatever you got, you need to use up there

Like a little potluck going on right now. [Music]

There we go

Some more tomatoes. [Music] All right

I love asparagus

Love it

Love it

Love it

But I only love the tips

But that's what she said

But listen to me right now, people

That's what I like.

There we go

I do not like soft asparagus at all

So therefore, I did not want to blanch it

I want to keep a little crunch in here

That's how you build flavor, build texture

Well, let's get this thing cooking

Yeah

And then you know what's going in

next

Let that cook for a little second

You know what I'm saying? Let that cook for a second

Clean down real quick and we'll finish this up

All right

Let's go ahead and put this lobster biscuit in that bad boy

Get every ounce of that $4 out of there.

That look, I ain't going to lie

That looks delicious

And now I got a little pasta, too

Yeah, the fizzouli

Let's go

Let's go

Here [Music] we go

And I haven't season it with salt and pepper yet cuz I want to wait till

that lobster bis was in there first

There we go

Delicious

Delicious

Delicious

All right

Get this oven. [Music] A little gray parm on that bad boy

Pick that back up.

Let's taste this bad boy before we need to add anything else to it. [Music] Oh, good

Need I need some pepper and some salt though

I need some salt though

I ain't add a lot but need some [Music]
