The syrup secret big brands DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW: (Sapjack vs Mrs. Butterworth's) Taste Test!
Summary
Darnell goes to war over breakfast syrup, pitting Mrs. Butterworth's against Sapjack Organic Maple Syrup. Spoiler alert: one's actually maple syrup and the other is basically just high fructose corn syrup pretending to be the real deal. He breaks down the taste test first, where pure maple dominates with bright, clean flavor that doesn't need much to shine. Then comes the nutrition reality check. Mrs. Butterworth's hits you with 44% of your daily sugar in just two tablespoons, while Sapjack keeps it simple: one ingredient, organic Vermont maple syrup. Darnell drops some real talk about what we're actually feeding ourselves.

[Music] All right
So, today on Super Shuffer Supermarket, we're going to break down a very, very important topic, syrup
We are going to do Miss Buttersworth original syrup versus I don't know who this is, but let's give him a shout out
Sap Jack
100% pure maple syrup
We're going to go through pricing
We're going to go through nutrition and try and try to change this culture as much as we can
All right, so we back in the kitchen on this episode of Super Chefer Supermarket
We're taking down maple syrup people
You know the thing we all
grew up on, but the thing I just realized one of them never said maple syrup at all
So we are going to have Sap Jacks
Sap Jack
Let me be very clear
Organic maple syrup versus Miss Buttersworth, you know, the grandma that raised almost the whole country
You know, she's been in all of our
refrigerators
Not even refrigerators, been all our pantries or sitting on the counter
So, we all know Miss Butterssworth, but I want to go head to head today because we're in a new era, people
A new era where we're not just eating what we used to eat, doing it the way we used to do it
The prices have
risen and the food quality, for some reason, it's not always rising with it
Um, so let's go ahead and get right into this
I don't even want to I don't even want to play no games
So, I like to start versus off with let's see who talks that talk
And the only way to talk that talk is what are you bragging
about on your label? Let's start with the OG first
I give her respect
You know what I'm saying? Elders first
Uh, Miss Buttersworth just says thick and rich, which in the dating life may be good for some people
But that's all I got for you
Original syrup, letting you know that it's the originator
Um, but
that's really all that it talks
Doesn't really say much else on it besides the name
And then let's get to Sap Jack
Um, first of all, stand strong is really bragging a lot. says, "No GMOs, USDA, organic, gluten-free, and 100% pure." I don't know what else you want to talk when you fighting or you're
doing something, but let people know you legit and 100% that, it's probably a good start to the fight
So, out of respect, because I mean, I've had this my whole life, I'm going to start with something that most of us have not had
And a lot of people are still loving to eat breakfast, you know, pancakes,
things like that
But I think we got to start making better choices with the small things
Like what we going to put on top of it? So, let's go ahead and try this out
First thing you notice is it's more water
It's more watery, but it's not like
water
There's a difference
It's not as thick as this will be, but it's not as thin to where there's a problem
Oh my gosh
It's something about the real thing
This is delicious
Wow
Pure maple syrup is what it is
It's 100% maple flavor
Say like it
just came out the sap like right out the tree
Uh probably this is probably Canadian if I had to guess
Not for sure, but I can find out for you all and let you know
But yeah, this is um and it's good to 20 20 20 28
I mean, that's a self-stabled item
So, flavor-wise, it's 100% pure maple syrup
If you've
never had it, it does not taste like this
So, just bright with flavor
The good thing about pure maple syrup is it's so flavorful, you don't need a whole lot of it
That's the win for it
Um, so let's go ahead and taste Miss Butterworth, the OG
First of all, let me get some water
first
All right
Now, this is going to take you down memory lane because we all have been there before
Now, look at that
That is definitely syrup
Thick, rich, you know
Uh, yeah
I got many jokes on that one, but I'll just keep it on the syrup right now
So, let's taste this out
I mean, it moves
different
The the biggest difference off rip is not just the color, but it's also just the viscosity of it
This is exactly what you grew up on
Unless you like grew up on the West Coast or something and you were like in LA and had like this growing up
Most people didn't grow up on this
Most people grew
up on [Music] it
Here's what it is
You know what I'm saying? Uh tastewise, this this tasting I knew would be simple because not I don't have to describe it as much because most people have had this
It does not taste as clean
This is a lot
more sugar even though this is sweeter
It's crazy
This is sweeter
This has more pop to it
This is thicker, more dense, and tastes more obviously artificial
So, that would be my taste
If I had to grade the two on taste, the winner has to I mean, hands
down, it's going to slapjack
Easy money right there
Let's give it up for SlapJack
They're going to win a taste one, which if you've never had pure maple syrup, it will always win in a taste contest against artificial syrup
The crazy part about this is, let's get let's go straight to nutrients cuz we
got to get right there
I want to get started with this
So, flavor, taste goes to the pure maple syrup hands down
And when it comes to taste consumer versus my chef opinion is almost every recipe that calls for syrup, we're always going to use pure maple
I don't know a recipe I've ever used that call
for maple syrup that we use artificial for
It just doesn't happen like that
Uh so when it comes to recipes, it comes to cooking, it comes to taste, pure always, hands down
But let's get to the nutrients real quick
I think it's important because this is my spill
I'm not going to give you no Dr
Phil here.
I I'm a chef first, consumer second, and a nutritionist 15th
But I understand food
So, it's important that we look at the labels
Um, first things first, ingredients
There is only, and this is Vermont
This is not Canadian
This is Vermont
So, the only ingredient on this is organic Vermont maple syrup
Nothing
else
No additives
There's nothing
It is what it is
Let's get the Miss Butterworth Grandma
First ingredients. high fructose corn syrup
Then you get the corn syrup
Then you get water
Then you get this uh gum, salt, cane syrup, caramel
I [Music]
mean, I mean, what do we need to say about this? I want to put this out there for everybody
This whenever you're drinking or eating this on your food, this is not maple syrup
It doesn't claim to be maple syrup
I never even knew that until today
We just grow up thinking
that we eat maple syrup, but it's not
This is just high fructose corn syrup, which is the leading cause probably for diabetes, high blood pressure, being pre-diabetic, pre and high blood pressure coming to you
Like this is the death of a community and definitely talk about my community
Um,
so there is no nutritional comparison here
The only thing you can compare is that one two tablespoons is a serving here on this one
A serving is two tablespoons equal
And this one has 100 calories, good calories
This one has 110 calories
That's about where it stops at for me
The ingredients in
here, the amount of sugar in here is insane to be able to get 44% of your sugar from two tablespoons. 44% of your daily value in two tablespoons of this
It's insane
So nutrients, I won't even I could I'm not going to destroy this product
That's
not why I do this show to destroy it
But when it comes to nutrition, people, you need to take this part
Your health is your wealth
And like I said the other day, I said on social media, I'll post something and say your future doctor right now is using Chat GT
Was it chat GPT to uh pass this test? So you
better take your health a little more serious
So nutrients will always go to the pure
Easy, easy, easy
So next we have price
Now, this is a tough one
I mean, like your money shows what you care about
I believe, don't quote, but we, you know, they change prices
They got different deals depending on the
store you go to
When it comes to price, this is a pint
This is 24 ounces
Cost about 350, $3.50
This is 12 oz, which if you don't know, 12 is half 24 and cost $9.99
I
mean I mean what what who what who do you think is a real winner? In the comments, let me know based on the price
Who do you think is the real winner? Twice as much for a quarter of the cost or $9.99 for half the amount
But the thing about it is it's organic
It's
pure
It is what it says it is
I'm going to give the winner obviously a price because the times we in to Miss Butterssworth
I mean get a W
They price themselves out
They're huge company
It is what it is
They win price
But overall, I mean, what are you what are you spending
your money on? I mean, I can't tell you what sugar is doing
Sugar is what I think one of the most addictive things in the world
So, you got to watch out for being addicted to things like this
You also, I know a lot of people when they first try it out, a lot of people have never had pure maple syrup, but
hopefully you'll go try it out after this
Break the habits if your kids don't like it
My kids do not like pure maple syrup
That's because we was on this for so long, but it doesn't matter what my kids like anymore
This is what they get
You know what I'm saying? It really doesn't matter
So, when it comes
to overall, and let me look and miss make sure I didn't miss anything on here
Yeah
Only thing left is availability
Availability
Ding ding ding
I mean, Miss Butterworth is going to win that every time cuz they're everywhere
And Seth, Jack, I'm pretty sure you can Amazon it.
So, I mean, that's everywhere, too
But I got this from Kroger
Got both of them from Kroger, actually
So, when it comes to the versus battle, the winner of the pure maple syrup versus syrup, we not going to disrespect it
Call maple syrup no more
The syrup has to go to and new undisputed champion
is pure maple syrup
And that was an easy win coming to you, man
We got to stop using artificial syrup
I mean, it's too excessible
I mean, I heard that Canada got so much stock of maple syrup, they could last for decades if they never made no more ever again
So, the winner of this versus battle goes to
Pure Maple Syrup by Sapjack, taking down Miss Buttersworth
Make sure you comment, DM me, let me know what you want to see go against each other or just a product that no one knows about that you want to see us review on here and give you an honest opinion and we're going to go from there
